Here’s how I spent a big chunk of my time this week: nursing a sick iMac back to health.
Hey, computer shit happens. It’s unavoidable. But this problem, I fully believe I brought upon myself by tempting fate and pissing off the Techno Gods with my devil-may-care-attitude, scrambled priorities, and unmanaged adult ADD. There’s a valuable lesson to be learned though. And Lord knows I loves me some life-lessons from the School of Hard Knocks, where I am a visiting professor with tenure and a key to the good teachers’ bathroom.
But there is a silver lining…
More details about that story In The Powder Room today. Read it. Learn from me. Don’t tempt the Techno Gods.
With peace, love, a pinch of unoriginal humor, and endless gigs of safe data storage,

There’s a theme song in here, you know. “Dat ass…dat ass – .dat ass, dat ass, dat ass – dat ass dat aaaassssss….dat ass dat ass dat ass…”
A wise friend said to me once “it’s not a question of IF your computer crashes, it’s a question of WHEN.” Words that I ignored until WHEN happened to me. ARGH
What? Mac’s aren’t supposed to crash, dammit. You must have broken its heart. Did you cheat with a PC?
I fully believe you brought this on by googling inappropriate shit. I blame Al and Bill, always.
I’ve been trying to buy a portable external hard drive and it seems like every single one has so many bad reviews. Any recommendations (since obviously you are a techno guru!)?
Ha! I’m definitely no guru, but the one I’m currently using is a WD. And I also have an iOmega. Both seem to work just fine for my purposes. If you are on a Mac, I’ve been told that you don’t need to spend the extra money on a Mac-specific portable hard drive. You just have to format it for Mac when you first plug it in, which if I recall, was not rocket science. It’s been a while since I did it though. If I could do it, it must not have been too hard. 🙂
Good. My daughter bought a WD and I have enough Amazon points to buy one for $0 so I think that’s a winner. I do have a Mac so good to know it’s not hard to format. Thanks for the kick in the patootie to go ahead and get one; I’ve been paranoid about losing files for the last few months.
Pendy and Leslie… I thought I had commented here but can’t see it. Must have not saved! But here is your solution. Apple Time Machine! ALl the way, baby! It’s a thing of beauty, both in function and form.
wow! I never thought I’d see a Mac defeated! You live and learn! 😛
